Vilnius Jewish Public Library has opened one picture exibtion to commemorate the year of Vilnius Ghetto. The picture organically matches to the interior of the library.

Vaidotas Žukas

THE GIRL FROM GETTO. 1976. Paper, tempera, collage. 74x42 cm.

20 century tragedy of the Jewish nation is expressed rather in non-dramatic but romantic and lyrical symbols. The whole format of the collage is enframmed by not very clean napkins moistened as if by tears or by phlegm. The colouring of the handerchiefs reminds of whiteness of pits top-dressed by lime. The faces of a man and a woman are crossed by coloured cross made of transparent candy paper, literary image of a young deer Bambi, eyes of a Jewish girl looking through transparent veil - all makes up a story by means of visual art about human fragility in the Lithuanian and world history.
